FAQs

How the Program Works

1. How does the subscription work?
SorbIts® is a managed service program for launderable, reusable absorbents. We deliver clean SorbIts® to designated storage locations inside your facility once every fourth week based on the quantity of soiled SorbIts® turned in for laundering during the previous pickup.

3. What should I expect during my first managed service?

SEE HOW DELIVERY WORKS

During your first service, we’ll give you 2.5 times the quantity of product you ordered. This ensures you have enough for both your first and second service cycles, plus some extra.

For example, if you ordered 50 SorbIts® Quilted Pads, you would receive 125 at your first service and zero (0) at your second service.

On your third and successive services, you will receive a quantity equal to what you turned in for laundering at your prior pickup.

Using the example above, if we pick up 40 soiled SorbIts® Quilted Pads at your second service, we will deliver 40 clean SorbIts® Quilted Pads at your third service.

During your first service visit, you can also expect:

  • We will follow your safety protocol and all PPE requirements and adhere to safety best practices inside your facility
  • We will provide SureSeal™ blue storage drums (property of ITU AbsorbTech) to store clean and soiled SorbIts® at your facility. We will collaborate with you to identify where these drums should be located
  • Your designated ITU AbsorbTech representative will assess your facility to ensure the quantities and product types you ordered are best suited for your applications
  • We will discuss the managed program, answer any questions you may have, and schedule training for your operators using the SorbIts® program
4. Will I receive the same amount of SorbIts® at each service?

We will service your facility once every four weeks. Delivery amounts can fluctuate because you will receive clean product equal to the quantity of soiled product picked up during the previous service.

5. Will I receive brand new SorbIts® with each delivery?

SorbIts® are launderable, reusable absorbents. As such, you may receive both previously used/laundered product and new product at each delivery. Individual pieces may show color variation; however, they all perform at high absorption levels.

6. What happens if we run out of product before the next service?

Please contact our Customer Response Center at 888-729-4884 for any urgent absorbent needs. We deliver your first and second orders during your first service to ensure you have enough for the first eight weeks. We will adjust your subsequent delivery quantity if your actual usage is more or less than anticipated.

A key point to remember is that the more soiled product you turn in, the more clean product you will receive during your next service.

7. What kind of fluids are suitable for SorbIts®?

SorbIts® absorbents are designed to readily address most applications involving non-hazardous fluids and petroleum-derived or synthetic oils such as engine oils, transmission fluids, metalworking fluids and oils, industrial hydraulic fluids, coolants, and industrial process oils.

8. What if my employees throw the product away?

Our Genuine Service Excellence representative will meet with you to ensure the SorbIts® program runs smoothly. Using signage and literature, we will educate your operators on the proper use, handling, and change-out of SorbIts® products. This is an essential step in ensuring that SorbIts® products are used efficiently. Deliberate and ongoing disposal of SorbIts® in the trash may result in a charge for any lost product.

9. Do we need a waste profile or manifest?

No waste profile or manifest is needed. SorbIts® is a zero-waste-to-landfill solution. We recycle the recovered fluids and return laundered product back to you.

10. How do I access waste reduction and usage reports for the program?

You can sign up for myAccount™ for free at https://customers.itu-at.com. myAccount™ gives you access to on-demand waste reduction and usage reports.

11. How is this different from the rental program you offer on ITUAbsorbTech.com?

Our eCommerce SorbIts® subscription offered on SorbIts.com allows you to pay and manage your program yourself online. Your credit card will be charged on a recurring basis once every fourth week for as long as you continue your subscription. This program is limited to select product lines and geographic locations.

Our SorbIts® managed program on ITUAbsorbTech.com is similar except you would sign a rental service agreement and get billed via invoice. This rental program offers the benefit of reduced pricing, a wider range of SorbIts® and other products, and is available to a larger geographic audience. If you are interested in this program, please contact us at 888-729-4884 for more information.

12. What kind of support do you offer?

You will be assigned a Genuine Service Excellence team to manage your SorbIts® program. An ITU AbsorbTech representative will visit or call you regularly to review your program. They will present cost, usage, and inventory reports to ensure the program meets your needs and recommend service adjustments to keep costs in line with budget. You can contact your account representative at any time with questions or concerns.

You will also have access to our Customer Response Center team at our headquarters in New Berlin, WI, at 888-729-4884 or [email protected].

13. How do I change or cancel my subscription?

You may change SorbIts® types and quantities by updating your subscription on the SorbIts.com account page or contacting ITU AbsorbTech’s Customer Response Center. Changes must be made more than ten (10) business days before the next scheduled service date.

You may cancel your subscription anytime by logging onto the SorbIts.com account page and following the cancellation instructions. You can also email ITU AbsorbTech’s Customer Response Center at [email protected]. Cancellations must be made more than ten (10) business days before the next scheduled service date to avoid being charged for the next billing cycle.

Laundering & Reuse

1. How are SorbIts® cleaned?

Our state-of-the-art ISO 14001 certified dry cleaning operations are designed to clean our SorbIts® products. We use petroleum-based solvent instead of the more common retail dry cleaning solvent called perchloroethylene. Perchloroethylene (also called PERC) is a colorless, nonflammable liquid commonly used in the dry cleaning industry and labeled by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a Group 2A carcinogen.

Soiled products are washed in large-capacity washer-extractors. These machines remove the soil by agitating and dissolving it in the solvent, much like paint thinner cleaning a paintbrush. This process is repeated several times. The product is centrifugally extracted at the final time and then transferred to a solvent recovery dryer for drying. The dryer evaporates and recondenses the residual solvent, which is reused. The products are then inspected and delivered to the customers for reuse.

2. Where does the recovered oil and solvent go?
The dirty solvent is processed for reuse on-site. Soils that the solvent has removed are collected and concentrated in the still bottoms of distillation units (stills) as the solvent is recovered.

A secondary type of distillation is also available to recover solvent from water, oils, and solids. This additional solvent recovery helps keep solvent loss at a minimum. The soils that came in on the various products are now recovered fluids, ready for shipping by licensed transporters to a commodity broker for re-refining or for use as an industrial fuel.

3. What happens to SorbIts® at end of life?
We strive to maximize the use of our products. SorbIts® Natural Mats that no longer meet quality standards are cut down to a smaller size for SorbIts® Drum Top Liners. SorbIts® Quilted Pads that no longer meet quality standards are used for filling SorbIts® Spill Kit pillows and socks.

Scraps that cannot be used for anything else are sent to our Neenah facility, where they are recycled.
